Many bodyworkers work like mechanics, mining for problem areas in pursuit of a body free of knots, restrictions and misalignments. The longer I’ve worked with muscles and skin and fascia, I’ve learned that pain resolves not because of massage therapists’ ability to release tension, but thanks to each client’s own nervous system’s capacity to soften, shift and transform.

One of the key features of living bodies, unlike cars, is their plasticity, or ability to change: they are alive, dynamic, responsive, and resilient. Rather than acting as a mechanic that tweaks “faulty” tissues, I honor the body’s inherent ability to heal when it feels it is safe again.

Rather than passively receiving massage and hoping results last, clients collaborate in their own recovery. Together, we discover the best way to reduce the intensity of and fear around flare ups, allowing them to live a fuller more joyful life

Massage. Using myofascial and Craniosacral techniques, my hands soothe sensations of soreness and tension melts away

Movement. Once hypersensitivity has been reduced, clients will rediscover movements that have previously been off limits, and learn to trust their body once again.

Understanding Pain. With the nervous system down regulated and open for transformation, I help folks to understand pain as a universal experience. Each session will include a discussion of topics such as:

  • Pain Triggers. What are their unique triggers of pain and how to dampen them

  • Self Efficacy vs. Catastrophization. When to heed pain’s warnings and when to challenge them

  • Beliefs about pain. Both societal and individual, often disseminated by healthcare providers, negative or nocebic* beliefs may be stoking distrust in one’s own body, and preventing recovery

My work bolsters each persons’ inherent ability to take pleasure in their embodied self.
